Light Work

A brand new fader for mixers has just hit the market - and looks set to revolutionise mixing technology.

The Infinium® fader comes in various sizes and is suitable for a number  of mixing applications, especially turntablism.  It is of the optical, contact-less variety, which means it will never wear out or crackle.  You don't need to be a brain surgeon to see the benefits to the DJ of this technology over traditional faders that rub metal against carbon.  The fader works using a surface that reflects light as it passes through light chambers. The movements are read by a microprocessor and are transmitted to the mixer.  The light chamber is protected against dirt and liquids so is unlikely to fail even in the worst conditions.

The infinium® fader is also completely adjustable and has been made to withstand the rigours of professional cutting.  The fader's cut-in point is adjusted using a rotary adjustor to customise the feel, and the tension can be controlled in a revolutionary new way too.  By moving a very powerful magnet closer or further away from the magnetic-grade stainless steel rail, a 'virtual' friction is created.  The feel can be adjusted without opening the mixer; just by moving the fader to one side and using a small screwdriver you can set the tension to the desired level - for the whole evening or just for that particular session.

The infinium® fader has already made its way into two DJ mixers - the Rodec Scratchbox and Mackie's soon to be released d.2.
